Dirty Fire Project EP out in April
Not only is there a phat eclipse hanging like God's own Hob Nob, high in the sky, but I'm hard at work finishing tracks for my very own EP! Xynthetic Recs found my page on Myspace and wrote saying that they really liked "Never Been To Tokyo" and "Examination". So.. I've been working on new versions of those two tracks plus two new ones - "Lament" and "Fuff" (working title) and they're nearly there... nearly there... Dirty Fire Project - too Many teeth Out in April from Xynthetic Records (free digital download - no DRM, released under Creative Commons Licence) Bwahahahahahaaha. ~aFx Current Mood: full of a coldCurrent Music: VM Underground on Live365 (The Unknownn) | | Sunday, October 29th, 2006 | | 7:35 pm |

Crikey, Adz is getting a hair cut!
Hey folks :) I have decided after much internal struggle, debate and general shenanigans that it is high time that I Got My Hair Cut. o.O In light of this historical occasion, I wondered whether any of you bunch of lovely people would fancy sponsoring me (Amnesty International) just so I can hold my head up high when I step into the barber's chair ? (and if not the barbers, hopefully I can get fussed over by pretty women at the cheap hairdressers round the corner :) ) I've set up a donation page on JustGiving which is at this address: http://www.justgiving.com/adzGetsACutThe haircut is happening next Saturday and the page will be open for donations for a month. Please help these hard-working people at Amnesty International do a really horrible job. Huge apologies to people who will no longer recognise me :) ~aFx Current Mood: coldCurrent Music: Dandy Warholes - Every Day Should Be A Holiday | | Tuesday, September 19th, 2006 | | 12:52 am |
Fire meet
Ahhhhh just back from Cornwall. Been to a fire-spinners meet down near St Ives for a really good few days. Beach parties and much campsite silliness abounded. I'll post some pics when I get this film developed. Incidently, Glade was amazing. I'd post some pictures but I found that when I got back, the lens on my phone was really smudged :/ Anyway, I'm off to bed. Night all. ~ aFx Current Mood: goodCurrent Music: Talvin Singh - Jaan | | Thursday, July 13th, 2006 | | 12:00 am |
more festival madness
Just about got my shit together for Glade festival... glow toys, camping equipment, music and the occasional item of clothing.. It would probably have been harder had I actually unpacked a lot of my stuff after Play festival a few weeks ago. Just lucky I guess ;) Current Mood: bit warm innit?Current Music: Murcof - Marmol | | Monday, July 3rd, 2006 | | 11:01 pm |
More Samsung related goodness
My phone being the former piece of Samsung goodness.
However, rather in love with my new mp3 player...

 |
| Samsung YP-Z5 4gb flash ram player, rather sweet (but a few quirks about tags and file names, we shall soldier through). |
Yum.

Play Festival 2006 I've had a most excellent weekend.
Play Festival is a community meet for juggling, poi and staff spinning groups and individuals from all over Europe. This year it was held at Fordham Farm in Market Drayton, Shropshire.
| I went by myself and without really knowing anybody, but I was made to feel so welcome by this wonderful bunch of people that I had an excellent time (although there were troughs where you realise that you've run out of socialising instinct and really would like people around that you know better.. but I guess I've made a start.) The atmosphere was great, friendly and frequently hillarious :) |
 |
 |
The various goings-on were centered around a large circus big-top tent. Many workshops on everything from various forms of juggling, poi techniques, staff work, to Pimms drinking and chocolate eating were held during the 3 main days. At night there were talent shows, fire performances, comedy, cabaret and DJs. |
| I've learned a whole lot of new moves and technique while just being around all these talented people. I -highly- recommend getting to one of these events if you're at all interested in such things or if you just want to spend a weekend with a load of cool folk. Why aren't more festivals like this? |

To top a fantastic weekend - on the Sunday night 174 of us attempted to break a world record for the largest number of people doing a choreographed fire spin. I can't wait to see the pictures from this (there are a few floating about already here for instance). We arranged ourselves in concentric rings of people grouped by the equipment they were using. Poi spinners on the outside, Staff spinners inside of that (about 49 of us), Double staff spinners inside of that, Devil-sticks inside of that with Nunchucks and Fire-Hula people in the middle. It did get quite toasty when everyone lit up but it was an amazing sight :) |
Anyway, I'm blatantly going to more juggling/poi meets in the future. They are just too good to miss :)

Found!
I'm stunned. Considering that I lost my phone on a Friday night on a bus going to the middle of Manchester, you really wouldn't expect it but some blessed soul actually handed it in :) It'll be a couple of days till I can take the call barring off but I'm absolutely gobsmacked. Only last week I was looking at these two sites: " How not to steal a Sidekick" and " How not to sell a laptop on eBay" Both of which came up in conversation on Friday evening itself. Bizarre. :) Current Mood: stunnedCurrent Music: background hum | | Saturday, June 17th, 2006 | | 3:01 pm |

Good God
30?!? Hell's teeth! How did that happen?!? Much celebrating last weekend, with a heavy St Patrick's day, a meal on saturday followed by seeing Crazy P in Manchester, has led me to this weekend with it's family related shenanigans, a fantastic set of pressies and which shall be followed, tonight by seeing Imogen Heap play :) Oh, yes, I nearly forgot. I bought a car :) aFx Current Mood: hungryCurrent Music: Frou Frou - Old piano | | Monday, March 13th, 2006 | | 12:31 am |
Tracks
Tonight I was treated to the experience of hearing some of the tracks that two of my friends have been working on, after I set them up with some music software and gave what advice that I could. I'm -so- impressed with what they're producing... it's making me think that what with a total of 3 friends producing tracks as well as me, it would be a good idea to set up a label for the results. I guess the only trouble is that the we're all producing different styles of music, from acid techno to ambient to electro to drum and bass. But that can work, right? Anyway, I'll be thinking about this some more. aFxps. Recovered from lurgy. Joy. Current Mood: hungoverCurrent Music: Dirty Fire Project - Examination | | Sunday, February 26th, 2006 | | 1:08 pm |
bah. rubbish.
Oh how terribly amusing. After a week of just plain feeling like shite, with a temperature on Monday night and a headache that hasn't stopped, the glands beneath my ears decided to balloon up like a pair of motherfuckers on Friday. I very much doubt that I'm going to be able to get to work this week.. barely been able to get out of bed! Fuck's sake. aFx. Shelves, shelves, shelves and more shelves. Bedroom finally getting well on its way to being sorted out, stable platform found for future site of record decks, cupboards excavated and being prepared for yet more shelves. I've housed three PCs and my amp in the shell of a Philips mini-computer (where mini means 5'x4'x3' with a 12" steel fan in the bottom; they just don't build them like they used to, thank fuck) which has sorted out a whole quadrant of the space. Things are still in a rapid state of flux and I still need to excavate my bed after storing stuff on it temporarily. However, things are definitely improving. Yay for horizontal space. ~aFx Current Mood: accomplishedCurrent Music: doormouse - Warleg | | Sunday, February 5th, 2006 | | 9:54 pm |
gah
Ahhhh dear. Definitely feeling like I went and got wasted this weekend. Ensconced back home after seeing Jodi for her birthday celebrations at The Pink Toothbrush club in Rayleigh followed by a session and a half, followed by me struggling to get back up the country while feeling especially ropey, all in order to get back to Manchester for the birthday meal of another of my best friends Liz. -Just- made it during the starters and managed to chew and everything. Good get together with my Manchester mates last night, all told. Today I managed to see both the Matt's ('Big' Matt (goes by the DJ name Jester) and 'little' Matt (goes by the DJ name Sleepy Hollow)) and returned a fixed and configured PC back to one of their mates. All packed with lots of interesting music toys and samples. It's getting interesting that now, between the two Matt's and I, we have a steadily growing collection of our own tracks. Sleepy is an acid-techno head and he's now got a fairly impressive studio setup that he's getting much better at using. Jester has been writing things in collaboration with one of our friends we both know from college, quite an eclectic range of tunes; from techno to dubby-electro tracks. They're getting very good results out of the limited facilities they've got access to (slow, shit PC) and it's a pleasure to hear the results (vague glow with pride of a technology-teaching job well done.) My own stuff is getting added to, slowly. I've been so ridiculously busy with work that I haven't had time in the evenings to sit and play with things. For the latest idea it is blatantly bootleg material as it's a mix of one of my tunes with one by Clipse. Damn copyright. There must be a way. So, I'm thinking that maybe it would be worth getting us all together in the same co-operative.
